Evaluation of sound mixing

Introduction
For my first sound mixing project, I had to select a short scene, listen to it intently and add my own voice over to this scene. The scene I chose was from the wire and it was a scene when main character, Omar is coming to collect something from people who owe him. The following will discuss how I eventually made voice over for him and how editing went for me.

The Editing Process
To get the voice over for Omar I had to both listen to how he talks and do a little overview of his character. Omar, in the show, never swears or curses which is evident in this scene with his choice of words. He could have said something explicit or destructive about how he is going to blow down the doors to their houses but he instead says "imma huff and imma puff" which is a reference to the three little piggies. Based on this analysis I scripted my voice over so that it rhymes and that has a lighter touch to it because I did not want him to sound to aggressive.

When it came to recording and editing my voice over, this was also a simple process. Recording was as simple as reading some lines of a paper in an accent. I used my phone as a microphone and emailed it to myself as this is how I felt was the best way to get my work onto the computer. I then uploaded it and began to edit it. I used GarageBand as my editing software and it was extremely simple. The process was putting the clip with its audio onto GarageBand, putting my voice on a track and then splitting it to make sure voice did not cross over with Omar's voice because that would break immersion and seem unprofessional. The clip itself sounds good and everything blends in well.

Conclusion
In conclusion mixing the sound of a scene from the wire was simple and easy with the only challenge being that my voice and the actors voice did not clash. As I move onto more challenging tasks, I am happy that I have got this skill locked down and mastered. It will most likely be needed moving on.

Proposal for Documentary Documentary - Making The Grade Requirement of brief The documentary will be completed by the 25th of May Summary of requirement As the final unit for unit 31, we had to make a community media project as our documentary. The use of sound in the pub fight scene in Kingsman: The secret service The pub fight scene in Kingsman uses sound to great effect in order to get across many things to the audience. The use of dialogue, music and sound effects make this scene very poignant and one of the most enjoyable and memorable bar fights in recent movie history.
