Evaluation of sound editing

Evaluation of sound mixing Introduction For my first sound mixing project, I had to select a short scene, listen to it intently and add my own voice over to this scene. The scene I chose was from the wire and it was a scene when main character, Omar is coming to collect something from people who owe him. The following will discuss how I eventually made voice over for him and how editing went for me. The Editing Process To get the voice over for Omar I had to both listen to how he talks and do a little overview of his character. Omar, in the show, never swears or curses which is evident in this scene with his choice of words. He could have said something explicit or destructive about how he is going to blow down the doors to their houses but he instead says "imma huff and imma puff" which is a reference to the three little piggies. Based on this analysis I scripted my voice over so that it rhymes and that has a lighter touch to it because I did not want him to sou...

How sound is used in Media productions

The use of sound in media productions Introduction In most media productions, sound is one of the most important aspects. They add many things to a scene that may complement the movie immensely according to how it is used. Sometimes simply the lack of sound is enough to make that particular scene. The following will discuss how sound  creates mood and meaning in both theatrical releases and documentaries. Sound effects used in Children of Men The sound effects in this scene are very naturalistic. From the beginning you can hear the car and everything you would expect to hear in the car and then when the action starts, loads of sounds are being thrown at you. At 1:29 you have the car making a sound indicating that the vehicle is about to come into contact with something. Immediately after that a flurry of people start rushing out and attacking the car. We can hear the sound of things beating against the car and then at 1:47 we hear the sound of glass breaking. At 1:50 A ...

Fight Club

The use of sound in Fight Club In Fight Club the big twist of the entire movie is that the narrator (Edward Norton) is Tyler Durden (Brad Pit) and has been the entire movie. This comes to ahead in the scene where Tyler is breaking down everything that has happened in the movie so far in a hotel. The use of sound in this scene is used in an extremely clever way as we find out what has really happened in the movie. This done by the use of music, special effects and dialogue. Music Music in this scene is used as a tension builder. Although nothing particularly dramatic happens, it is used to build up to a memory flash. Every time the narrator has one the music speeds up and the second it ends it slows down back to its building phase. This continues up until the line "little by little you're just letting yourself become... Tyler Durden" has been spoken. That is when it completely stops. The music is all non diegetic and forces the audience to pay more attention to ...

Kingsman Pub secne

The use of sound in the pub fight scene in Kingsman: The secret service The pub fight scene in Kingsman uses sound to great effect in order to get across many things to the audience. The use of dialogue, music and sound effects make this scene very poignant and one of the most enjoyable and memorable bar fights in recent movie history. The report will break down how all of these features were used. Music Music is constant through out this scene and all of it is non-diegetic. Before the fight When the 2 main Characters Eggsy and Harry are talking there is background music building up some sort of emotion. It then drastically changes when some thugs that Eggsy upset in an earlier scene come in and with anger then the music turns darker. it then cuts completely when Harry is about to walk out of the pub until one of the goons says a joke. That is when the heroic score comes in for Harry. As he is locking the doors of the pub the music follows along to those sounds. It continues to...

Children of men car scene

The use of sound in the car scene of children of men The car scene in children of men is both visually and audibly astounding. The fact that the scene is all done in one take and everything is just done so well is a testament to the great direction of Alfonso Cuaron. This report will analyse the use of sound in that scene and what makes the overall impact great. Music  The music in this scene is quite unique to other scenes in this movie. It is diegetic as the music is always in the car even though the characters do not pay attention to it. The music does a good job of building up the tension even though the music was not invented to do that. The genre of the music sound a lot like rock. The percussion builds up and that is when the first part of the action starts. The music does cut out at one point in the scene when a major character dies and then an ambient sound brings it back in again. When a viewer watches the movie for the first time they might think that the musi...

Children of men intro analysis

The use of sound in Children Of Men Introduction The opening moments of Children of Men have a lot of importance to set the scene and mood of the entire movie. The use of sound in this scene really helps the viewer build up an idea of what this movie is going to be about. This report will break down the dialogue, the sound effects and the music of this scene. Dialogue The dialogue in this scene is actually very small. There is not a lot of interactions between characters other than the main character asking for a black coffee. The news reports are where the viewer’s get their main source of information from. This actually happens before there is any picture. The news reports talk about a siege of Seattle; how Muslims are urging the army to leave their mosques, British borders remaining closed (inferring that immigrants are not welcome) and shockingly of all, the youngest boy in the world was killed. As the scene continues we find out that the boy was only 18 meaning t...
